Theatre Project 4: Theatre History Lesson

MRS. ZEIGLER’S THEATRE HISTORY UNIT

Assignment for: April 14-24, 2020 DUE: April 24, 2020

 

This is a 2 week project. You will create a lesson plan for a Theatre History Unit. Your lesson will be based on a specific time period in history. Use your imagination and creativity - remember how you like to be taught and how you learn best. Below you will find a list of the time period you are supposed to research for your project. Time periods have been assigned by class period.

 

1st Period: Greek Theatre

Festival Dionysus, Chorus, Thespis, Mask making, Theatre models or drawings, Euripides Plays, Sophocles Plays, Aeschylus Plays, Aristophanes Plays

2nd Period: French Neoclassical Theatre

French Neoclassic Theatre, Stylized Costumes and Makeup, Model of theatre or drawing, Moliere Plays, Other playwrights and plays

4th Period: Theatre Myths and Traditions

List and describe Myths of the theatre: Macbeth, Theatre ghosts, Lots more

List and describe Traditions of the theatre: Green rooms, Ghost lights, “Break a Leg” vs “Good Luck”

5th Period: Medieval Theatre

Model or drawing of a pageant wagon, Morality plays, Mystery plays, Miracle plays, Role of the church

6th Period: Eastern Theatre

Noh Theatre, Kabuki Theatre, Chinese Opera, Models of stages or drawing of stages, Chinese plays, Sanskrit plays, Noh plays, and/or Kabuki plays

7th Period: Roman Theatre

Plautus Plays, Terence Plays, Other playwrights, Masks or costumes, Roman Colosseum (Coliseum), Gladiators

8th Period: Italian Renaissance Theatre

Masks and costumes, Commedia del Arte, Model or drawing of stages and theatres, Stock characters

 

In your lesson, you MUST include certain things:

  • What was happening in the world at that time. List 3 non theatre things happening in the world.
  • How did theatre relate to or reflect society at that time. How did theatre “mirror” society in that time.
  • What (if any) lasting effect did this have on the theatre (how might we "see" these effects theatre today)

 

YOU MUST create the following items to turn in:

  • Poster board or Power Point presentation with info and pictures for your time period
  • A review worksheet or worksheets with questions and answers to go with the poster board or powerpoint
  • Outline of your lesson plan. (An example is provided below or you can google lesson plan formats)
  • Documentation of where you got your information. (List of your sources.)
  • A 10-20 question quiz about your time period

 

Your lesson plan MUST include the following information:

  • title of unit (can be the name of your time period)
  • outline of how you plan to present lesson
  • copy of any worksheets and quizzes and the answer keys.

 

IMPORTANT POINTS TO REMEMBER:

  • Don't just write down information! Explain it - Put it into your own. words
  • Plan everything even how you will set up and get ready.
  • Try to find a fun and interesting way of doing your lesson plan.

 

GRADES will be based on:

  • Poster board or Power Point presentation with info and pictures for your time period. 20 Points
  • Worksheets with questions and answers to go with the poster board or power point. 20 Points
  • Outline of your lesson plan. Organization of lesson plan. 10 Points
  • Documentation of where you got your information. (List of your sources.) 10 Points
  • A 10-20 question quiz about your time period 20 Points
  • Imagination, creativity and clarity 10 points
  • Accuracy of information, handouts, notes, etc. 10 points
